Student-as-teacher: spanish Lessons Unit
The first trimester of Spanish class included a lot of culture-themed units and activities including presentations on Hispanic Heritage Month and Día de los Muertos. As the teacher, I am incredibly pleased with and proud of what the 7th grade produced, and their first trimester report cards largely reflected their efforts.
In the second trimester, we will get back in touch with the foundations of Spanish grammar and expand our knowledge and vocabulary. To review, students will be presenting lessons on a variety of topics including the differences between Masculine and Feminine nouns, telling time, the use of pronouns, and verb conjugation. Further details will be shared and uploaded shortly.
In their lesson, students will take on the role of teacher and will be asked to create a presentation for their "class" on their topic that is engaging and aesthetically pleasing. Presentations will be given in English to ensure understanding. In addition, students will create a worksheet to hand out at the end of their lesson, and in that way they can assess how successful their delivery of content was.
Below is an example presentation with a guideline regarding how to earn the highest marks when it comes to presentation choice and style. I encourage creativity and a neat, clean presentation using Google Slides, Prezi, or another lecture format of the students' choosing.
Presentations will be assigned the week of 11/26 and students will prepare to present during Spanish classes in the week of Tuesday, 12/12.

Fake Social Media
The Hispanic Heritage Month presentations were overall a success! It was wonderful to see such a variety of people represented and researched by our 7th grade class. During presentations, I noticed that students struggled with remembering numbers, days of the week, and months; because of this, we will take a brief period of time to review those things so they are easier for them to access.
To begin, we will review numbers and days/months during class and students will be asked to create fake "posts" to a shared Google Document, found below.
Each of 2 posts should include:
DUE: Tuesday, 10/16

Each of 2 posts should include:
- The date (day, date, month, year)
- A real picture that involves a connection to numbers (see example)
- A brief description in Spanish about that picture with use of the numbers.

Hispanic Heritage Month Presentations
Students will work in self-selected pairs, groups, or independently to research an influential person of their choice. We will learn about a few people per day for the rest of Hispanic Heritage Month, and students will design their own slides modeled after the examples below. The example can be found in English and Spanish, but the 7th grade project will be written in Spanish.

Spanish unit 1
To ease back into our Spanish language learning, we have been practicing how to greet one another, ask where someone is from, explain where we are from, and tell about our age. We had our first quiz with overall fantastic results, and have since done a mini-lesson on Spanish-speaking countries and their capitals. For many of us, this is a review of what we learned in fourth grade. Please see the "Spanish Resources" page to find the video we used to practice the countries and their capitals, as well as the powerpoint we used for vocabulary.
We will continue to learn about Spanish culture, history, and prominent figures throughout this month, while incorporating a major holiday: Día de los Muertos at the end of October/early November.

Welcome back to IB Spanish, 7th graders!
I'm so excited to continue learning with you this year over at the Dank Haus -- we'll be starting with a refresher of the language, then continue with learning more about who we are, how we connect with other cultures, how we celebrate (Hispanic Heritage Month, Spanish festivals & Día de los Muertos!!), Spanish culture, music, and dance... it's going to be a great year, and I'm looking forward to it!
