student-as-teacher: spanish lessons unit
The first trimester of Spanish class included a lot of culture-themed lessons and activities including Hispanic Heritage Month and Día de los Muertos. Additionally, we partnered with a class in the younger grades and acted as 'Amigos Invisibles' and wrote/translated letters back and forth! We are hoping to plan a celebration to officially meet our pen pals in the coming weeks.
In the second trimester, we will get back in touch with the foundations of Spanish grammar and expand our knowledge and vocabulary. To review, students will be presenting lessons on a variety of topics including the differences between Masculine and Feminine nouns, telling time, the use of pronouns, and verb conjugation. Further details will be shared and uploaded shortly.
In their lesson, students will take on the role of teacher and will be asked to create a presentation for their "class" on their topic that is engaging and aesthetically pleasing. Presentations will be given in English to ensure understanding. In addition, students will create a worksheet to hand out at the end of their lesson, and in that way they can assess how successful their delivery of content was.
Below is an example presentation with a guideline regarding how to earn the highest marks when it comes to presentation choice and style. I encourage creativity and a neat, clean presentation using Google Slides, Prezi, or another lecture format of the students' choosing.
Presentations will be assigned the week of 11/26 and students will prepare to present during Spanish classes in the week of Monday, 12/11.

welcome back!
WELCOME BACK, 8TH GRADE!!
I'm so excited to be back with you this year! We have begun the year with some basic vocabulary and greeting practice, and will continue by working on describing ourselves and the world around us. We have chosen Spanish identities and will be using the language we have learned to embody this character and communicate in the Spanish language with an "Invisible Friend." Looking forward to all this year has in store for us.
